Rio Lauca Bush Camp

This is a little pull out on the way to the thermal baths near a river. Free with NP entrance fee (40B/p). Great views of all three volcanoes and so blissfully quiet.

Sajama Tent Camp

Area near geysers good for tent campers and vehicles. Protected area for tents, fire pit, area to sit. Could use hot water from geysers to bath and do dishes if you have a bucket. Great view of volcano.

Lakeside Bush Camp #2

Trying to split up the drive to Uyuni we camped here for a night. It’s a bit close to the highway and full of garbage but the price is free. No amenities. Tent campers, if you are in a bind I think you could make this work but it won’t be pretty. Lots of locals come here and use it as a car wash. Too much traffic noise and too exposed.

Hostel Marith’s parking lot

This is a total shit hole but we wanted a shower before venturing to the Salar and needed to save our water for Laguna route. It costs 40B/person and the major draw for us (besides the shower) was the lock on the gate. We found out later they charge 15b if you just want shower, still a rip off.

Uyuni Salt Flats

We camped on the northwest side of Isla Pescador and although it was a bit windy we did have the place entirely to ourselves and a beautiful sunset. No amenities except a few fire pits.

Vila Vila Bush Camp

We had a flat tire and Michael found this bush camp outside Vila Vila. Lots of space, flat, and far enough from the highway that you don’t get much noise. Overall not a bad spot.

Sud Lipez, Laguna Honda

Quite a windy spot but hard to beat the spectacular views surrounded by flamingos. The wind was very intense until around 9pm and then stopped completely. It was cold enough that the lake froze overnight. We loved watching flamingos huddled together in the morning waiting for ice to melt.

Hot Springs Camp beside Laguna Chalviri

This is a dusty parking spot near the hot springs. Slightly protected from the wind and you have good views of the lake. There are bathrooms within walking distance and a little shack that sells food. Camp site was free but we were charged 3B/person for the hot springs. Busy with Land Cruisers in the AM. Better spots down the road a few miles in Dali desert.

Sud Lipez, Laguna Verde

Just above the main mirador for Laguna Verde you will find this spot that has even better views and allows you to escape the crowds. It is very windy and there are no amenities. We ended up moving to a different spot across the lake in the late afternoon due to high winds. There are some protected areas nearby this site and at the main mirador site if the wind is too powerful (and they are more protected than the site we camped at across the lake).

South Laguna Verde Bush Camp

We moved here to hide a bit more from the wind. It was still quite windy but you have great views of the volcano and the lake and there wasn’t any traffic on the nearby road.
