This is a beautiful place with great hot springs. Entrance to the hot springs is $8 per person. Camping was another $6 per person. Camping is just available in the parking lot and it was a bit muddy when we were here. We saw a wifi network but never got a password – it may be for hotel guests.

Location: -0.19921, -78.49175 (Altitude: 9140 feet)

Giant parking lot in Quito. They’ve got space, a big fence, and toilets. Primitive but ok. $0.75 per hour. We found a quiet corner of the lot and would have spent the night if some friends didn’t invite us to camp at La Carolina Park.

Parking lot for a giant park in Quito. Ran into lots of other Overlanders here. Noisy in the mornings but quiet at night. Bathrooms available in the day but closed at night. There is a police station nearby if you really needed a bathroom in the middle of the night. Restaurants nearby. Cost $2. Gets noisy early, around 5 am.

Location: -0.63446, -78.48184 (Altitude: 12562 feet)

Beautiful camp ground in Cotopaxi NP. Very quiet during the week and plenty of space. Free. Supposedly pets aren’t allowed in the park but we saw people with them. Other campsites nearby here that are a little hidden on the way to lake where friends of ours camped with dogs problem free.

Location: -0.61457, -78.47330 (Altitude: 12638 feet)

This isn’t a good site for tent campers and it’s quite windy here but you get amazing views of the volcano. We just parked here all day and enjoyed the ever-changing view out our back window. Free.

Location: -1.40211, -78.28803 (Altitude: 4869 feet)

Beautiful spot with tons of fruit trees, a swimming pool, a fully stocked kitchen and great owners. Only a couple spots for truck campers, and we were left right next to the highway which wasn’t ideal traffic noise was fairly loud. Walking distance to waterfalls but 20 minutes by bus to Banos. 5 dollars per person.

Los Arrayanes Restaurante Y Hospedaje

Date Visited: 09/02/2014

Location: -1.81643, -79.07126 (Altitude: 7648 feet)

A little hotel/restaurant just off the road. We stopped here while trying to find a spot to break up the drive between the coast and Banos . They didn’t charge us to camp for a night so we offered to eat in the restaurant for breakfast. Tent campers, there is a beautiful space behind the hotel where you could pitch your tent near the river. Very kind family. Hugo is the owner. He loved tours of our camper and asked a ton of questions about the trip.

Hosteria Salango, Islamar

Date Visited: 09/07/2014

Location: -1.59931, -80.85234 (Altitude: 203 feet)

Probably one of he most spectacular campsites we have ever visited. Spots are all along a cliff overlooking the ocean with a trail to the beach. It’s a shame that the shower is pretty awful and the only restrooms are by the restaurant. Still, highly recommended. $15 per night.

Bargained down to $15 per person per night. Clean rooms and hot water. Entrance to this place is hidden. Just a nondescript door without any signage. A new hotel with modern bathrooms and good wifi. We looked at many of the cheap hotels and this was by far the cleanest.

West Caja Drive Up

Date Visited: 09/21/2014

Location: -2.70987, -79.45078 (Altitude: 7185 feet)

Seemed like a great place- off the road away from traffic noise in a rock quarry. Police kicked us out at 6pm saying this was a very dangerous spot with armed robbers :( first time I had two shot guns ( police) pointed at me. Don’t camp here, not worth the risk.

PN Cajas Visitor Center Campground

Beautiful area with hiking trails, visitor center, and a restaurant right on the lake. We wanted to camp here and asked (4$ per person), but the weather was miserable. There looks to be a few spots for tent campers but it’s not very level.

Here are the pros and cons: Pros- close to town, power and good wifi from camp spot, very nice owner. Cons-roosters were very loud most of night, the only bathroom and shower was in the family’s house (awkward) far from campsite, shower was cold, not worth the price. $15 a night.
