We spent 2 months in Colombia and spent a total of $4,932. That means that we spent on average about $82 per day.
Our largest expense was transportation ($2,127 – about 43% of the total budget), followed by food & drinks ($1,866 – about 38% of the total budget), and finally living expenses ($548 – about 11% of the total budget).
Our transportation budget was higher than normal for several reasons. First, the costs here include about $375 shipping costs (shipping our truck from Panama to Cartagena). Second, we spent about $500 in maintenance on our truck–you may recall we broke our back window in the Guajira, but we also did an oil change and a couple other things. Finally, Colombia is big and gas is expensive–we spent about $870 just on diesel fuel.
The charts below should break everything down. The chart on the left shows the primary categories. The chart on the right will break down whatever primary category you select (just click on a wedge slice in the pie chart on the left). Some reports that these charts aren’t working on Android devices; I’m sorry but I don’t own one yet so I can’t test it.
