It seems all I ever read about in other peoples blogs who have done the PanAm is how much they loved (and then missed) the tacos and food of Mexico, and how they wished they spent more time here. So we are on a mission, to eat as many tacos and Mexican food as we can while we are here. And to take Mexico slowly and really get to know different parts of this beautiful country.
I love all the huge flags all over Mexico. This is next to where the cruise ships dock in Ensanada.
The first part of our taco quest began in Ensanada where I had read about two food carts that had been around for over 40 years that were supposed to have pretty epic food. We started at La Guerrerense, famous for its seafood tostadas. Anthony Bourdain and Rick Bayless both eat at this food cart when they are in Ensanada (their pictures were out front). Sam and I shared an octopus and a fish tostadas, the octopus was my favorite.
Buying our snacks and also a jar of her amazingly spicy homemade salsa (which the four of us are finding almost too spicy to eat).
From here we trekked over to Tacos Fenix, which I had read had the best Baja style (deep fried) fish tacos in Ensanada. OMG! They were so good that we actually came back the next day and ate twice as many. They were $1.00 each and we were the only gringos there both days, a good sign.
I could eat this everyday. It was so fresh, crispy and flavorful.
When you eat at food carts, you might be eating on the sidewalk next to a dumpster, but who needs ambience with food this amazing!
From Ensanada we went in search of a cheap campsite and found one near La Boufadora (the blow hole). The camp site we chose was really rustic and rural and we would not have camped there alone, which again, makes traveling with another couple so awesome.

Our campsite was $5.00 and had by far the WORST bathroom we have seen so far on our entire trip. When Ashley and I first saw it we both just started laughing, it was basically a shallow hole with a wood box built around it and no door. At least the view was great!
If you think this is scary now, try using it at night!

So far, camping in Mexico has been cheap and wonderful and empty. I am sure it will get a little more crowded when we head over to the Sea of Cortez, but now it feels like we have had places all to ourselves.
